I love the transition to Fall. The warm colors, snuggly fabrics, cozy scents, all of it.
Apparently, my state did not get the memo.
We are STILL suffering through 100-degree days and water curtailments. 😩 But while we excitedly, and maybe a little anxiously, wait for cooler temperatures to arrive, I decided I can at least start transitioning the inside of the house.
And who knows? Maybe a few strategically placed pumpkins will encourage Mother Nature to flip the cool-weather switch. 😂
First up: Fall scents.
I love a good seasonal scent, so I’m swapping out my usual summer fragrances for something a little more Fall-ish. Right now, I’m using Febreze Berry & Bramble plug-ins. They’re sweet and bright without being too heavy or warm, which makes them perfect for this awkward it’s-Fall-but-it-absolutely-doesn’t-feel-like-Fall transition.
Next, I’m bringing out the Fall throws.
Do we technically need snuggly blankets when it’s 100 degrees outside? Maybe not. But they’re pretty! And with the way we keep the A/C blasting around here, it actually gets a little chilly inside sometimes. That’s justification enough for me.
I’m also shopping my own house and pulling out some of the Fall décor I’ve collected over the years. Most of my pumpkins came from Dollar Tree or Dollar General, and I don’t need a ton of them. A pumpkin here, another little Fall accent there, and suddenly the room starts feeling like the season is changing, even if the thermometer says otherwise.
And surely all those pumpkins will encourage the weather to get with the program.
Lastly, I’m tackling the ottoman.
This thing is HUGE, and I love it, but ever since we got this furniture set, I’ve struggled with how to decorate the ottoman while still keeping it functional. I don’t want a beautiful setup that we have to completely dismantle every time somebody actually wants to use it.
For now, though, it’s styled, it’s functional, and it serves its purpose. I’ll take the win.
The biggest thing I’m realizing is that transitioning your home for a new season doesn’t have to mean buying an entirely new collection of décor or completely redecorating a room. A new scent, a few cozy textiles, and some things you already own can change how your home feels.
So yes, we’re still sweating.
But inside?
We’re calling it Fall. 🍂
